Trip to Nagarkot

Gipatik: 22.02.2024

Since Monday was a public holiday in Nepal, we German interns set off for Nagarkot - a popular tourist attraction - on Sunday afternoon. From there you can see a great sunrise early in the morning with a view of the Himalayan mountains.

We spent the night in Nagarkot in small sleeping containers, where it got pretty cold at night. So we put on whatever clothes we had with us to sleep. Some of us even slept in our winter jackets.

At 4:30 a.m. the alarm clock rang and we started our hike to the viewing platform, highly motivated. After arriving there way too early for sunrise, we quickly realized that it was quite foggy. Nevertheless, we naturally hoped that things would still clear up. Unfortunately that didn't happen, so we were denied a view of the Himalayan mountains. At least we saw the sun rise through the fog.

We had discussed a lot in advance about the way back. Since no bus went directly in our direction, we would have had to go to Bhaktapur first and from there to the village. Since this is a detour, we decided to take the direct route. We originally assumed it would take us about six hours to complete the route. However, our friends in the village said that it would take us less than six hours. Well, after being misdirected a few times, it took us eight hours, which seemed very long to all of us as we barely noticed any progress. That's why it felt almost surreal when we finally saw our village. The short night in Nagarkot and the seemingly endless hike were still in our bones a few days later.
