Las Vegas -> Death Valley

Gipatik: 05.08.2017

It doesn't take long to go from the hustle and bustle of Las Vegas to the silence of Death Valley. It is truly a magical place. First of all, it is fascinating how high you have to climb and how often you go up and down.

Las Vegas is located at an elevation of nearly 600 meters above sea level. The first point on today's tour was Dante's View at an elevation of about 1700 meters above sea level. Flo, who unfortunately is dealing with a slight cold, was our barometer for the ascent. His headache indicated the change in altitude.

After the indescribable view over the Valley of Death, we plummeted in a rapid car ride to nearly 86 meters below sea level. Standing directly in the dried-up salt lake gave me a slightly eerie but also adventurous feeling. In addition to the difference in altitude, the temperature of nearly 47°C really got to us. So, the Employee of the Month award goes to the air conditioning in our Toyota Corolla.

Afterwards, we set off towards Lone Pine and reached it after more than two hours of driving up and down mountains. As soon as we arrived, we went to eat something since we had only consumed water until then. After my obligatory jump in the pool, we went to bed and are now enjoying the lying position.

Today's trip: 333 miles
