Day 11 (8/16/23)
The sun is shining, the thermometer is already showing +30 degrees at 8 a.m. - and it's so humid...
We decide to spend this morning on the beach and then escape the midday heat back to the villa. We chose Playa Porto Marie, which we really liked in the first few days.
We are on the beach at 9 a.m. Today the fee of just under €3 is due, and we then have a free choice of loungers on the beach. We take 2 sets in the 1st row, right on the white beach. Splendid!!!
The water here also looks like a huge swimming pool. This turquoise and the crystal clear water - I'm still overwhelmed by it! Absolute madness! Truly the most beautiful sea I have ever seen!
We don't hesitate for long, unpack our snorkel gear and head into the turquoise dream.
A few stone balls with holes in them were sunk in front of the beach, probably to settle corals. I hold my Insta on a stick into one of the holes. Let's see what I find in the video later 😉
Edit: I later recognize a “fish with googly eyes” in the video, which is perfectly camouflaged with the sandy bottom. It appears to be a stonefish. With a huge cloud of sand he rushes through another hole in the stone ball and is gone.
We snorkel left to the rocks, but apart from flounders and colorful fish there isn't much else to see. The real highlight are the sunken “roundels” where the fish hide – and of course the foresight in “our” giant swimming pool.
After extensive snorkeling, we swim to the swimming platform. My husband and the kids jump into the water countless times, I just enjoy the sea and chill on the water with my inflatable pillow.
There's a storm raging at sea, at least a damn dark cloud is gathering on the horizon and it's getting a bit windy. At some point it becomes too uncomfortable for us and we swim back to the beach. Since the weather seems to be moving towards the island, we pack our things around midday and drive past “Williwood” back to the villa, where we spend the rest of the day at the pool.
