About York to the Waverock

Our first destination with our "fancy" campervan model "Nasenbär" were the Wave Rocks near Heyden, a day trip east of Perth.

On the way, we stopped in the pretty town of York, which is considered the oldest inland settlement in Western Australia (1831). The small buildings have been beautifully restored, and the suspension bridge over the river, originally built by convicts, has also been restored in recent years (probably not by prisoners ;-)).

Continuing towards Wave Rock, we traveled through the "Wheat Belt" of Western Australia towards the Outback. The wheat fields here yield so much that the harvest is transported by freight trains! In the town of Corrigin, we noticed a statue of a dog, and upon closer inspection, it turned out to be the entrance to a quite large dog cemetery. Lord knows why this sleepy town has more dog graves than residents.

Arriving at Wave Rock, we quickly checked in at the campground right next door and went to see it before sunset.

Wave Rock is a massive monolith that has this distinctive named indentation on one side. It's quite easy to walk on the monolith, and from there you have a magnificent view. We enjoyed the sunset, cooked for the first time in the campervan (it was delicious), and slept well in the nose of the Nasenbär.
