Distinguished visit

On March 15th, my dad actually traveled with two Ecuadorian friends. Since he was already in the neighboring country, it was a hop, skip, and a jump for him to come here.

After spending the night in nearby and warm Chachagui, we drove to Ipiales the next day, specifically Las Lajas, on the border with Ecuador.

Originally, we wanted to go to Popayan, but unfortunately the road has been blocked by indigenous people protesting for the past few days, so no one can pass. In the meantime, even the gasoline has run out in the city of Pasto.

In Las Lajas, there is an impressive cathedral built into a gorge. The Colombians don't hold back with the nighttime lighting of the cathedral ;-))

Road situation

The indigenous people are serious. Last week's roadblock continues and new ones are added.

The Pan-American Highway (main road) is completely blocked. Gasoline has already run out in the area and gas as well as certain food items are becoming scarce and more expensive. The people here take it easy, they are used to these kinds of situations and it can last up to a month...
