Barely on the mainland, we realize that we obviously have a 2-hour time difference (backwards)...Although winter time was supposed to be abolished in 2018, as a Moroccan proverb says: 'The Europeans have the clocks, we have the time.'
In reality, this means that the time is flexibly adjusted and since we are in the middle of Ramadan, the time has been set back 2 hours for Ramadan so that the sunset and therefore the breaking of the fast are not so late. After Ramadan (from April 20th), everything will probably be reset to 'normal'...all right, good thing we brought plenty of time with us :-)
For our first night - still without internet access - we chose a place in Ksar es-Seghir in advance via Park4Night - a recommendation from friends and well rated for a safe overnight stay not far from the ferry port.
For the equivalent of 3€, we are standing on a cliff by the beach, right next to the police station and guarded by a very nice car park attendant.
Following his recommendation, we walk to the nearby town and experience the last minutes before sunset, when everyone quickly buys food for the upcoming breaking of the fast at the street market. We buy various pastries, freshly squeezed orange juice (which is available on every corner here) and then eat comfortably in the cabin (promptly at the call of the muezzin). Fortunately, Mia is very uncomplicated when it comes to eating and simply tries everything ...with a clear verdict afterwards...thumbs up or thumbs down - or sometimes 'neutral'.
After a windy night and a brief scare because apparently a cat (unsuccessfully) tried to climb onto the cabin through our alcove, we drive to Tangier the next morning to finally get back online and withdraw money because in Morocco, 'only cash is king!'
Because of Ramadan, the city is pleasantly empty and quiet in the morning and we can calmly take care of everything. We then go to the Medina (old town) for lunch, stroll through the beautiful alleys, go to the market, and eat deliciously in a bistro above the rooftops. After a quick stop at a playground, we zoom off and head towards the foothills of the Rif Mountains because we want to go south.
Here, we find a parking space in the mountains (also via Park4Night) and will see how this night goes...Goodnight!
