As mentioned in the other article, when you travel alone, you're somehow not really alone ;)
In addition to the usual questions from the locals about traveling alone, you also get to know other travelers.
In Pulau Pangkor, it once again showed how small the world is: In my accommodation, the guests prepared breakfast together in a communal area, which is ideal for meeting people. There were eggs, pancake batter, toast, and more available, and we would prepare whatever we wanted. In the process of flipping pancakes, I struck up a conversation with the person making scrambled eggs. It was funny!
One morning, the owner of Nipah's Guesthouse approached me and said, 'Katja, the couple at the table next to you is from your country'. We started talking and after a brief chat with Julian and Christina, it turned out that Christina is from Würzburg. She then asked me where I work. After I answered, she started laughing and said that her mom also works there. She told me the name, and of course, I know her mom. We both shook our heads and laughed at the coincidence of being in the same place at the same time :D We took a photo and sent it to her mom, who also laughed and took it to my office where my colleagues were amused. The world is small :)
The couple is traveling around the world and will be in Australia in January. We'll meet up in Melbourne then :)
In Pulau Pangkor, I also met Joanna from Poland, who finished her 3-month trip through Southeast Asia. We spent an afternoon together at the beach and she kept telling funny stories that made me laugh, as shown in the following photo series:
On Pulau Pangkor, I encountered more animals than people:
Rhinoceros hornbills to which I gave a piece of banana:
There were also roaming dogs and cats, small naked (flesh-colored) geckos that would dash along the exterior walls at night, small crabs running on the beach, and monkeys in the trees fighting over food. In general, you shouldn't carry food too obviously in forests, otherwise, the monkeys will take it, no matter what ;)
