No getting through the eye of a needle

Day 41: As expected, saying goodbye to El Campello wasn't easy. We stood at the car for a long time overlooking the sea and watched the glitter and color magic of the sun. But we had to go because we had to replenish our supplies at ALDI and be at our new pitch , San Antonio Camper Park in Altea, between 1 and 2 p.m. I had completely forgotten that next to the supermarket there is a Chinese store that is so big that all the Chinese stores we have been to so far could easily fit in there. Of course Icke had to go in there, but despite all fears, the spook was over in ten minutes - which was perhaps because my darling had literally wasted half an hour in the junk shop opposite...

Luckily we only had to travel 30 kilometers to our destination. Little did we know that it would take us half an hour to cover the last 700 meters. We were already in Altea when Google Maps took us to a small side street. Ok, I thought, that will be fine. But the road became increasingly narrow. Bushes, trees left and right. At some point an older couple walked in front of us with their shopping, who kept turning to us with questioning looks. The road became so narrow that I could only drive at walking pace anyway. Nevertheless, many branches and twigs were impossible to avoid. They screamed heartbreakingly along our paintwork. Finally we came to a place where the remains of a low rock wall on the left and right were so narrow that we couldn't fit through.

Icke got out and tried to direct me, but the sandy and stony side of the road was already grinding on the tires so badly that I could smell it in the interior. We tried our best, forward, back, a few centimeters to the left, a little to the right again - we couldn't get through it! At some point the man – it turned out to be a Dutchman – had mercy on us. He asked Icke where we were going. She told him. He scratched his head and then said, “But there’s nothing here anymore. Even if you could fit through here, you would have to turn around at the front. This is a dead end.”

Bravo! I had to resist the temptation to throw my phone and Google Maps out the window. Now I could do the 500 meter millimeter work again - backwards. Despite the reversing camera, it wouldn't have been possible to do this alone. Icke walked in front of or behind the car and directed me. So with a lot of luck and patience we made it back. As a duo we are simply unbeatable!

We tried to get to our pitch from the other side. That wasn't easy either, but it worked. However, the effort was worth it. We are only separated by a road, right on the sea. Every service imaginable is offered here. There is even the option to wash the motorhome. We've been standing here for a long time. We booked for five days. But I think even if I were here for 50 days, I wouldn't think of washing the RV.
