Finally on the way!

After a delicious Egg and Bacon Sandwich from Connie for breakfast, we set off for the 2nd time to replace our tires. This time everything works out! After fixing the wheels, we pack all our purchases and "build" our car into our private living and sleeping cave. While inflating the newly purchased double mattress, we discover that it already has a hole. So the marathon continues, we find the same store (including a huge headquarters) in Cheyenne, but both do not carry our mattress model. After a long search and comparison, we find 2 single mattresses that together have the exact width of our car - Yeah! After all the hiccups, we can actually start. We drive back to Connie and Gerry to thank them again and say goodbye and zoom off towards the Black Hills.

We drive through a tiny part of the huge Great Plains. Yes, the name says it all: it's super flat here and wide! At some point, our path winds its way into Wind Cave National Park. The prairie dogs welcome us: they peek out of their burrows everywhere and disappear just as quickly. We buy our National Park Annual Pass and then drive to a campground. At the very back, we find a quiet spot. Because of the giant RVs (as big as a tour bus plus a car attached!?) that make a lot of noise when they power up, we keep our distance and, of course, get closer to the forest. Finally cooking for ourselves, finally in nature, finally travelling the way we have wanted to for a long time.
