On our first trip to the Wachau, Michi, our knowledgeable guide, took us to the ruins of 'Hinterhaus' - no, this is not a joke or the title of a children's novel, but a very picturesque and well-preserved ruin above Spitz, a charming town in the Wachau. The climb is easy and the view is beautiful.
*The Wachau roughly extends from Melk to Krems along the Danube River and is famous for its good wine and 'Marillen' (apricots) in every form - from jam to brandy.
