Day 21 - Dolphins, Breakdown & Setúbal

A bɔra kɛnɛ kan: 23.04.2019

Heeeeey guys!

Man, a day without any breakdown would be nice... Just one! This morning, we woke up feeling pretty destroyed as it was a very short night, and we were glad for the breakfast buffet :). When we wanted to leave, we entered 'Casino' in Google Maps, as the receptionist said that was the meeting point for the dolphin-watching tour, but there was no casino nearby... So we asked again where we should go.... It was the casino in Troja“ (1 hour drive!), we wouldn't have had any chance to be there on time. The receptionist called the organizer, who offered us to switch to the tour at 12:30 pm from 'Setúbal' (about 1 3/4 hour away). We accepted the offer and started driving. When we couldn't find their booth there, we got really stressed! We stopped in a parking lot and asked a local where we should go. That's when it happened: while reversing, I looked non-stop in the rearview mirror and it was enough! But probably when I started moving (the vehicle swerves a lot), I must have hit the parked vehicle next to us... I didn't notice anything and continued driving a bit stressed due to the time pressure. Suddenly, someone honked behind us. I didn't feel affected and kept driving. Then there was a proper honking concert, so I stopped just to be safe. Then an angry driver of a BMW came to us and said that I had grazed his car. At first, I thought that was impossible, so he called the police to confirm it. When I realized what had happened with the swerving, I knew he was right... Kevin started filling out the accident report, and I took it to the other driver. He said that I had tried to flee, to which I replied 'no, sorry, I simply didn't notice it with this gigantic vehicle. If I wanted to flee, I wouldn't have stopped.' I asked him to fill out his part of the report to speed up the process. In the meantime, Kevin tried to clean the scratches a bit, but they didn't go away completely... We really thought that we would be in big trouble cost-wise because of the police... As we stood outside cursing to ourselves, suddenly the driver of the BMW got out and said 'well, let's forget about the whole thing, after all, I don't want to ruin your vacation either. But please be more careful in the future!' We couldn't believe it! Where did this change of heart come from???? Gratefully, we gave him 50 euros and said goodbye.

We continued driving and parked the camper at the harbor. Actually, we found the desired organizer there too! Of course, we were already very late... But they still had a tour at 2:30 pm. We booked it right away! Mom and I went to eat, and Kevin waited for us in the camper. He was pretty sick due to yesterday and didn't feel well at all... We met again for the tour, and thanks to the medication, he felt much better.

After about 30-40 minutes of driving, we actually saw dolphins! And not in the open sea, but in the huge river there! They weren't very close to us, but we saw them again and again and watched them for about an hour. Then we had an involuntary coastal tour (actually really nice, but it was getting cold again and our bladders were pressing...!), until we finally unloaded at the harbor. After that, we parked a bit further ahead and treated ourselves to a delicious dinner before taking Mama to her hotel and looking for a place to spend the night ourselves.

Exhausted, we went to sleep around 9:30 pm. You'll find out how tomorrow goes in the next post ;)
