Day 7 Clyde - Rail Trail

A bɔra kɛnɛ kan: 21.12.2019

Now we are three nights in Clyde at the "Lavender Drive B&B". Very cozy there and very nice hosts. Unfortunately, the wifi keeps crashing, so there is this day from the restaurant during the romantic dinner.

Great sunny day today. We had booked a bike tour in advance. The trail used to be a railway line until 1990, which was then discontinued and the freight was switched to trucks. 🧐 At least they decided to turn it into a trail. From the meeting point, the organizer took us to the starting point in Auripo. There we were dropped off with good bikes and maps and were allowed to ride the 63 kilometers on our own. We stopped twice, first in Ophir, an old gold mining town that is lovingly preserved and inhabited, whether it's a post office, courthouse, hospital, etc. Absolutely charming.

We continued the wild ride to Chatto Creek, where we had lunch. Formerly - during the gold rush - it had 800 inhabitants, today it has 20.

The whole trail was well signposted and there were many information boards.

And we passed by a filming location of "Lord of the Rings", where a big orc battle took place and the heroes hid behind these rocks, see photos.

That was the highlight of the day and the ongoing dinner at Pauline's goes well after the appetizer. That's why it's time to call it a day for today.
