You can reach Palm Springs from San Diego relatively quickly via the interstates, but that would be boring. We chose a route that seemed more interesting in terms of driving, the Palm to Pines Highway at the edge of San Bernardino National Park.
You drive steadily uphill and get a sense of the incredible vastness of this country.
We took a lunch break in Paradise Valley, where the diner is located at a street intersection and we got a delicious black bean burger.
Going downhill, the view became spectacular and the temperature kept rising. When we arrived in Palm Springs, it was 43 degrees. Therefore, after checking into our hotel, we spent the rest of the afternoon by the pool.
