The downhillers start their Olympic adventure. For us, this is also the starting signal as spotters. Peter and I will accompany a cameraman on the inspection and inform him about the drivers who are still coming and where they are positioned. Luckily, we have watched a lot of World Cup races and already know almost all of them. It is difficult to tell the individual drivers apart. For example, Jansrud and Kilde look very similar and even have practically identical equipment. Beat Feuz was quite relaxed and joked with an Austrian coach.
The training showed that it is indeed an exciting track with several turns and jumps, but it does not have any major challenges in itself. The gold or silver medal will be decided by small details.
In the evening, we visited the IBC. This is where all the media come together. The hall is huge. The newly planned OlmaHall will probably have almost 10 times the space. Frau Guntli briefly showed us around the premises, past radio studios, control rooms, and meeting rooms.
Afterwards, we were invited to the SRF reception. The moderators greeted us and we quickly started talking to the very personable Marc Berthod. Michi Bont was also present, so I was able to talk to him about our ski club's equipment order.
