Tag 71: Surf Highway at Mt Taranaki

A bɔra kɛnɛ kan: 04.11.2017

Originally, we wanted to hike at the volcano and admire the lake, but unfortunately, a cloud is stuck on the mountain. Nevertheless, we drive up the beautiful road through the rainforest.

Upon arrival, the rain doesn't stop - horizontally. We even have our own 3-meter high, dense waterfall coming down from our camper. Do we really need to see another one? The weather forecast doesn't improve for the region for the entire week. The DOC confirms our assumptions and now we have to plan accordingly for the next few days. The famous Tongariro Alpine Crossing is off for us and instead, we drive to the weather-independent caves.

We continue our journey on the Surf Highway where the sky clears up a bit. We see surfers daring to ride the waves in the stormy weather (not for beginners) and in the evening, we enjoy the fireworks directly at our camping bay. The New Zealanders use the British holiday Guy Fawkes to set off fireworks.
