Day 4: From Valle Maira to Valle Stura 👍

A bɔra kɛnɛ kan: 19.07.2023

Today we will experience one of the most beautiful sections of our journey, starting well-rested and culinary indulged with a 1500m elevation gain. Today a group of two will leave one hour earlier.

The gradient increases as we go along, and the last section is a rough gravel road. From Rifugio Gardetta (2340m), where we will arrive at the same time as the group of two, the ride becomes very impressive with the partially steeply carved old military road into the rock. Together we will ride and push to the pass at Monte Brancetta at 2600m.

The descent requires (as always in the Western Alps) mental focus, sufficient riding skills, and endurance, as there are about 1600m of steep ascent followed by dozens of tight hairpin turns to descend.

In the valley, we will have to climb a few more meters uphill, in temperatures above 30 degrees, until we find a fountain in Sambuca, where we can cool off and have cold drinks.

But the best way to describe it is through pictures.
