Valdivia, the city of rivers

I spent four nights in Valdivia and had a really great time. On the first day, I made a friend at the hostel who was visiting his friend in Valdivia. So I could tag along with him and met many students. There was always something going on. In the afternoon, the locals showed us some nice places in the city and in the evening, there was a party. So I experienced a lot that other tourists miss out on.

On the second day, I decided to do some cultural activities on my own and visited the Kunstmann brewery. As the name suggests, the brewery has German origins. There are several beers with German names in the region. This is due to German immigrants who settled in the area in the 19th century. The German influence on the region is clearly noticeable. There are villages with German names, several German schools and associations, and a lot of apple strudel. The climate here is similar to ours, which is why the wines here are not that great, which is probably also a reason for the pronounced beer culture in the region. The tour of the Kunstmann brewery was also very interesting, and I really liked that the tasting started at the beginning of the tour. The brewery offers over 20 really delicious beers. Just like in Germany.

On the last day, we went together to the beach, where we enjoyed the sunset with beer and empanadas. It was really lovely. And it became adventurous afterwards, because the tide cut off our way back, so in the darkness we searched for our way through the rocks and bushes. In the end, everything turned out fine and we ended the day with a proper student party.

I made some really great new friends and I won't forget these days in Valdivia anytime soon. The city is also exactly to my taste, everything has a very relaxed vibe, people are really cozy and peaceful. In the evening, we could walk outside without fear, there is no crime here. A truly relaxed city.
