Hiking at Mt. Cook

A bɔra kɛnɛ kan: 20.02.2020

The day begins with a view of cloudy mountain slopes. I make a coffee and then start the first hike quite early, which takes me on 3 suspension bridges to Hooker Lake in 1 hour. After complaining a lot about the many stairs yesterday, I actually wanted to go for an wheelchair accessible route today, but no, there are stairs again.... But at least fewer... Pieces broken off from the glacier covered with stones and dirt float as small icebergs on the lake, meanwhile the cloud cover is already clearing up. Around 11:00 I go back, now a real stream of visitors is slowly starting.. Good thing I was here so early. On the way back, I drive around a mountain to the Tasman Glacier, a short walk to the lake is also rewarded with a beautiful view. The return journey is 30 km along Lake Pukati, the final stop of the day is the deep blue-green Lake Tekapo. The parking space allows me a nice view of the lake, but at night strong gusty winds come up and I have to close the tailgate again.
