15.02-19.02 Marlborough sounds
On Wednesday, after the check-out, we went to the 'Center of New Zealand' - a approximately 20-minute hike through a park, to the top of a hill. This is the center of New Zealand. Then we headed towards Picton to a free campsite (brown River Reserve).
On Thursday, we went to Marlborough Sounds, a fjord in the north of the South Island. The weather was great and the landscape was simply beautiful!
We made a stop at one of the filming locations for The Hobbit (the scene with the barrels). Some guys had set up a rope under a bridge so that you could swing into the water there.
Fritz took the chance immediately and jumped into the water about 100 times (it was too cold for me, but it still looked fun 😄)
On the campsite we drove to (so far out that there was absolutely NOTHING for several kilometers around), there was even a small white-brown dog, with which I cuddled and played for the rest of the afternoon.
In the evening, the sunset over the sea behind the mountains was visible and simply breathtaking.
Of course, Fritz unpacked his camera and took lots of pictures 😄
We stayed for two nights, and on Friday it rained so hard that we spent the whole time in the tent watching series, listening to music, and writing in our diaries.
On Saturday we went back and to the next campsite 'Smith farm Holiday Park' which was really cool!! We were greeted with warm muffins and an explanation for a night walk to observe glow worms.
On Sunday, we went to Hanmer Springs via Picton, Blenheim, Nelson Lakepark, and Murchison in 8 hours. Along the way, we also made a stop at a pretty hidden waterfall. And now I'm glad to have arrived at the hostel in Hanmer Springs and to have Wi-Fi again 😄👌
