Sapa, a small village, also very far north of Vietnam, was my next destination. Here there are high mountains, deep valleys and numerous rice terraces. I arrived early this morning by night bus, around 4 o'clock, I think. After a short rest, I started the day and rented one of those (awful!) automatic scooters. I'll find my motorbike someday. The day will come!
So my destinations were easy to reach. First, I went to the Silver Waterfalls, which, like my hostel, are located high up on the mountain and therefore outside the cold city. Here the sun usually shines and it's about 5-10 degrees warmer than in the valley below. The difference is clearly noticeable when driving down into the valley. Down in the valley, I reached Cat Cat, a village consisting only of stone stairs and wooden walkways. Really cute here. Among other things, the mountain people sell colorful clothes here, which they sew by hand and elaborate jewelry. Very traditional.
On the way, I met a Canadian and a Vietnamese couple. It was her birthday today, so we spontaneously decided to have dinner together and celebrate properly. There was hot pot again and a specialty of Sapa: purple rice. Delicious and completely different in taste from normal rice. Learned something new again.
