Today we drove a short distance off to hike at the Svartisen Glacier (Black Ice Glacier).
A boat brought us to the starting point, from where it was 3km to the glacier. We hiked steeply uphill over the smooth-surfaced stones, first parallel to the waterfall for some time before reaching a lunar landscape with very little vegetation. The big one was in the carrier for most of the ascent and commented on the events. Going all the way to the glacier was too much for us, but even from a distance of 300m, we felt the immense size of Svartisen.
On the way down, the big one walked most of the time, until she got tired on the last kilometer and fell asleep in the carrier shortly after.
The second highlight today was crossing the Arctic Circle. This line celebrated in every atlas is marked in Nordland with a souvenir shop and restaurant. The ubiquitous mosquitoes, inside and outside, quickly drove us back to the Cookie, which took us to Lønsdal, where we will spend the night.
