Today it can rain, storm or snow (whatever it does), because Tina herself shines like sunshine... Today is her birthday!
After a lovely birthday breakfast on 7/9/22, we drive up to the viewpoint Flydalsjuvet to see the postcard fjord Geiranger. Since it's raining the whole time, the view of the fjord is not exactly breathtaking today either. Our enthusiasm is limited and we think that other fjords, such as the Aurlandsfjord, are just as impressive as Geiranger. We briefly visit the small village of Geiranger and treat ourselves to a birthday cake at the local chocolate factory. The day is interrupted several times by many kind birthday wishes and calls - thank you to everyone who remembered :) We go back up the Geiranger-Trollstigen with Freedolin to the viewpoint Ørnesvingen, where the fjord finally shows itself from a better side.
With a short stop at Gudbrandsjuvet, an impressively roaring river, our path leads us to the "real" Trollstigen. The Trollstigen is a road with 11 sharp hairpin bends and actually fantastic views of the valley. Actually, because it's still raining (at 5°C). At least the Stigfossen (320m-high waterfall at the Trollstigen) has more than enough water, which plunges into the valley.
To make the most of the day, we at least go to the Thai restaurant in Åndalsnes for a delicious meal. Truly authentic Thai soul food! Then we follow the tip from the Dutch couple we met at the glacier and park our van on a fantastic private pitch right on the Romsdal Fjord. We can only communicate with the owner of the place, an old farmer, in Norwegian, so with hands and feet ;) Somehow we manage to understand each other.
The next highlight and slightly delayed birthday gift awaits us the next morning: a German retiree who comes here every year and also stands on the farmer's land comes back from fishing as we get up. He gives us a piece of his freshly caught and already filleted coalfish!
The 7/10/22 also comes with better weather. And so we look forward to our next stop: the Atlantic Ocean Road. The road spectacularly crosses numerous bridges directly by the open sea from one small island to the next. But you can only really appreciate this highlight from a bird's eye view. Luckily, we brought a drone with us ;)
Afterwards, we drive a few more kilometers to Trondheim and enjoy driving through picturesque landscapes.
Once we arrive there, we enjoy our gifted fish by a small lake just outside the city. What a feast!
