Day 18 - Stop playing Indiana Jones, stopover in Peru and farewell to the Amazon

Апублікавана: 07.12.2017

I woke up at 6 o'clock to pouring rain. The roof is watertight, but the noise is quite a good alarm clock ⏰

I'm afraid we'll have to put on our rain ponchos today. A kind of one-person sauna made of rubber - that's something I'm really looking forward to 😢

Our last scheduled activity was a visit to a village in Peru to look for sloths. Heavy rain was pouring down over the village on the other side. Too risky to cross the Amazon with the small boat. Plan B: The local heritage museum. It was well done, but not that great either. Because it was still raining, we were allowed to watch two videos about pink dolphins and manatees.

The rain has stopped and we managed to avoid the plastic sauna. In Peru, we didn't see ANY sloths 😂. The village was strangely lined up like a string of pearls; all the stalls were aligned as if with a ruler. We're curious, so we asked: That used to be the runway of an illegal airport for drug transportation - even the Peruvians draw a straight "line" for that 🤣. By the way, it takes 10 to 12 hours' walk to get to the next coca and marijuana plantation (15 hectares!) - it's already noon, so we'll do that tomorrow 👍.

Since everything that can happen to us happens to us, the port of Puerto Nariño was blocked by small boats on the way back. Some kind of communal political dispute - great sausage 🌭! So we had to walk somewhere to the muddy bank and back to the village. But the speedboat to Leticia still left as scheduled and we were back in Leticia in the late afternoon.

You have to question whether it was worth the 3 days: We all agree that being here in the Amazon was really cool - how often in life do you have such opportunities. However, 3 days in the jungle were too long. It could easily have been done in 2 days. And spending hours looking for animals, we leave that to the camera crew of Terra X from now on. They professionally cut 27 hours of waiting time into 45-minute snippets, which you can enjoy on Sunday evenings in your sweatpants - in full HD and slow motion. We will no longer be nature freaks in this life. Just a little snack in between, but not too much in one go. Yesterday we met a girl from Munich who really liked it here and booked an extension week. It's all a matter of taste. We're looking forward to Bogota!

PS: Also, we're running out of fresh underwear and need to do some laundry (or have it done).
