Today we will exceed the 300 km mark for the first time driven km, and that is due to the lakes that are in the landscape here. We're back on tour early, driving along Coorong NP on the Princes Highway, checking out the lakes located between the sea with dunes and the road, including salt lakes, driving to the narrowest point between the mainland and the Younghusband Peninsula and seeing hundreds of black swans. When there is water, there are also birds.
Our destination today is Tailem Bend, a place with a large open-air museum of the first settlers, and we are not disappointed. Over the years, enthusiasts have collected buildings, objects, cars, railway wagons, and lots of odds and ends from the past. The house of the somewhat wealthy people stands next to the settler Kate and the trapper house with very basic standard. Of course, the school is next to the church, the hotel with pub next to the dressmaker's shops, the men's and women's outfitters, and the grocery store. The post office and the telegraph station are just as present as the hospital and a row of craft shops. A hodgepodge but very worth seeing. We are glad we made this detour.
Tomorrow we would love to go to Kangaroo Island, but booking the ferry tickets proves to be very difficult, we simply need too much time for it. The municipal WIFI is often too weak and also limited in time. In the end, we manage to book a ferry for Thursday evening and one for Sunday morning at Mc. Donald's. For the most part, and except for a few places, the ferries are fully booked.
We are looking for a campsite and quickly find only a showground, but they at least have a shower and we could use one again.
