6th day - Saturday (sobota)

Uñt’ayata: 03.09.2016

I read somewhere that the Centennial Hall in Wroclaw is so big that the St. Peter's Basilica in Rome can fit inside it 3 times. Of course, I don't believe that. That's why on the last day I went to the east of the city, and I went on foot, because that way I could also visit some other attractions.

In the southeastern suburb is the famous 'Film Street' ul. Miernicza (Lützowstraße):

Directors like Spielberg, but also interesting filmmakers shoot here when they need historical Berlin houses and facades:

Apparently, they are in such a state of disrepair here that they are unique worldwide! Obviously, the film people are not familiar with Castrop-Rauxel...

There are bullet holes that testify to fierce battles...

..although some are definitely fake:

But there are authentic actors:

Paddling Or so

Then we continued to the Centennial Hall, walking along the Odra River:

Apparently, you don't have to go into a Nazi bunker to go paddling here...

Centennial Hall (Hala Stulecia)

I wasn't quite as impressed with it. I would say it's reinforced concrete Gothic. Yes, it's big, but 3 times the size of St. Peter's Basilica? I don't think so.

Four-Dome Pavilion

The adjacent Four-Dome Pavilion by Poelzig was better. Completely white inside and full of contemporary Polish art, like this:

That's where I spent the afternoon (in the exhibition).

WuWa (Apartment and Workshop)

Since the Werkbund settlement is nearby, I managed to find it:

At first glance, it may not seem so exciting, but this is architecture from the 1929 WUWA movement and is naturally related to the Dessau Bauhaus. This is social housing from the twenties, as the settlement was only for single and childless married people, hence 'Ledigenheim'. Apparently still good enough today for a park hotel.

Water spectacle

The sounds of Beethoven's 5th Symphony 1st movement (ta,ta,ta,taa) led me back to the Centennial Hall. There was this:

So it was a rather peaceful last day in Wroclaw. There is still one more riddle to solve:

3rd riddle

Runners know: The famous Uwaga Marathon will take place here soon:

- What is special about this race?

- What is the route (approximately)?

Goodbye in Wroclaw

...that means 'Good evening', but it still fits!
