I woke up relatively early and started walking into town. Ålesund is located on a peninsula that extends deep into a fjord. The back of the peninsula is a wooded mountain ridge which provides a view over the city. The old town is characterized by Scandinavian wooden buildings adorned with Art Nouveau stucco. However, the harbor was marred by two gigantic cruise ships, whose guests flooded the small town like a tidal wave.
First, I walked around the old town for a bit and then decided to take the stairs up to the viewpoint. I enjoyed the beautiful city from above for a while and then walked along the mountain back towards the mainland. There, I bought groceries for my dinner and prepared it. Later in the evening, I walked back uphill and found a small treehouse that I turned into my overnight camp.
