Hello dear ones,
after our somewhat longer journey, we have finally made it and actually arrived. On the day of arrival, we only took a short walk. On March 9th, we headed to Auckland in the morning. We drove to the War Memorial Museum or Auckland Museum and parked the car there. The museum is in the middle of a park called Auckland Domain. This park is very spacious and really beautiful, with impressive trees and a winter garden. We then walked through the park towards the city center and accidentally walked through the university campus. A true highlight, I think I studied in the wrong country.. :D A very spacious campus with the most diverse buildings and an amazing atmosphere on the grounds. As the Auckland Art Festival was about to start, there were stalls set up everywhere and music was playing from all corners. I can only recommend taking a walk there.
We continued through Albert Park towards Queen Street. This park was impressive again because there were incredibly old trees and a green oasis in the middle of the city center.
Queen Street is an impressive mix of new buildings and historic buildings. You can find almost all shops on this street, from souvenir shops to Prada and Gucci. This street leads to the harbor where you can also take a leisurely stroll and admire the impressive cruise ships.
We walked back along Queen Street, much further than before, and then through some side streets back to Auckland Domain, this time at the other end of the park and back to our rental car.
Afterwards, we drove back to our accommodation as we had an appointment to view a car. After trying to go through my uncle's list to the best of my knowledge and conscience, I decided to buy the car. :D I am now the proud owner of a 2004 Nissan Primera. I can sleep in this car but I can also take up to 3 passengers. At this point, I would like to thank my uncle again for writing me a detailed list of what to look out for when buying a used car.
We spent the rest of the day returning the rental car and taking the guys who sold me the car back to their hostel. We sat down together for a while to hear some first-hand experiences.
After this long and exciting day, we just went back to the B&B and went to bed.
This morning (10.03) we drove back to Auckland again to officially transfer the car into my name and to arrange insurance. Since the weather wasn't great anyway, it worked out well. After this paperwork was done, we headed towards Hamilton.
After a drive of about 2 hours, we arrived at our accommodation. A hotel just outside of Hamilton in the middle of greenery. After unpacking briefly, we went back to the city. Unfortunately, it started pouring rain when we arrived, so we only took a short walk along the River Walk and then through the city in search of a restaurant. In the end, an Indian restaurant won, which, in my experience, was not set up like a typical Indian restaurant, but had delicious food.
Today, we went back to the hotel relatively early due to the ongoing rain. At least this gave me the opportunity to report a little about our experiences so far.
I wish you all a good day and say goodbye to my little bed.
See you soon,
Jessi
