Oberderdingen

The land of 1,000 hills -

We were tempted again. In the local newspaper, this hike was advertised as an "autumn tour". Of course, it works at any other time of year too. The main thing is that the weather is neither rainy nor has strong gusts of wind nor temperatures over 30 degrees. As always: don't forget sun protection!

We hadn't even considered the IRONMAN in Kraichgau before this trip - and we didn't see anything of it either. It was definitely beautiful again, especially since the weather really left nothing to be desired.

We drove through various towns to Oberderdingen. Beautiful landscape - but I've already mentioned that several times. When we arrived in Oberderdingen, we had an espresso in the KAFFEEHAUS ASCHINGER, bought two rolls to fortify ourselves and then we headed slightly uphill past the beautiful houses opposite the AMTHOF. The Amthof houses, among other things, the local winegrowers' cooperative. A very impressive ensemble of buildings.

Then we simply follow the description in the newspaper, which describes the paths and branches in great detail. In between, we simply let our gaze wander over the vineyards to the horizon, breathe in enough terpenes in the forest, take a sip of water and enjoy the bread roll. There were very few hikers around, so we were able to experience everything in peace.

The sunken road was quite narrow and overgrown with trees and bushes up to the path. Then up a hill again, at times following the "V on a yellow circle", and then back down into the valley. There was a well-visited rest area at the edge of the forest with a playground for young hikers and a barbecue hut for the adults.

Our path led us up through vineyards, through the forest and back into the valley. Steps were built in here, which makes a lot of sense given the incline. Once we got to the bottom, we took a farm track past the BERNHARDSWEIHER. This pond was once dammed by the Herrenalb monastery for fish farming.

At DERDINGER HORN we were surprised by a festival. The MÜLLER winery was serving wine there on Sunday. The winemakers take turns holding such tastings throughout the summer. Just read about it on the Oberderdingen or Kraichgau-Stromberg tourism website. So today there was delicious wine and of course solid food in the form of meatloaf rolls and other stomach-filling treats. As it was a very pleasant day with a mix of sun and clouds, the ladies and gentlemen really had a lot of glasses to fill. We also enjoyed a nice rosé. Then along the access road down to Oberderdingen.

PS The ASCHINGER COFFEE HOUSE is worth a visit. The man who gave it its name is also an honorary citizen of the city. The museum in honor of this interesting man also honors the local entrepreneurs Karl Fischer and Heinrich Blanc. We will explore it on a future visit. August Ludwig Aschinger and his brother Carl built up a large catering business in Berlin around 1900. You can read more about it on Wikipedia.

See you soon.
