On June 24th, we got our rental car and drove off to Canmore. We made a stop for a hike in Glenbow Provincial Park which was a way more beautiful landscape than I imagined. Directly at the park entrance, we spotted 2 male mule deer further away with huge antlers. As they didn’t move while we were driving past, we wondered if they’re just sculptures put up for visitors. Especially as they were still in the same spot on our ride back a few hours later. But we stopped and watched them for a while – they actually moved! In the park, we were also happy to see the Western lily and lady's-slipper orchids. But our highlight were the incredibly cute ground squirrels! When the first one appeared, we were psyched because we thought they are rarely visible. But as we continued our hike, we discovered they were literally everywhere, no matter where you looked you could always see some hopping away in the grass or hear them squeaking next to the path. When we sat down for lunch, they even came as close as a metre! And did I say they are just SO CUTE?! Take a look at the photos and video!
Squirrel adventures are to be continued…
