This morning we woke up at around 4 o'clock because the minibus for the tour to the Rainbow Mountains picked us up shortly before 5. After a 2-hour drive, we had a delicious breakfast, followed by a very bumpy and curvy long drive through the mountains. It was tough for people who easily get sick, but extremely beautiful for people who love taking photos.
Snow-covered peaks in the background and one grazing alpaca herd after the next on the green hills. Just as many as sheep in the meadows of New Zealand.
Eventually, we reached the station where the ascent to the 5200m high mountain begins. For Milo, I had rented a horse with a guide who took him all the way to the very last climb.
Hiking at such extreme heights is quite exhausting. We had to stop and catch our breath on the steeper parts. It's not without reason that there was an ambulance with a ventilator in the parking lot and the guides had oxygen equipment for emergencies. Altitude sickness can occur suddenly. And indeed, there were some affected people who had to be brought down from the mountain.
We even had the pleasure of seeing a rainbow above the Rainbow Mountain.
The descent was much faster.
