We drove to Stewart Island with the plan to complete the Great Walk 'Rakiura Track' in 3 days with two overnight stays. When we woke up on the first morning, it was raining heavily. Brayden and I decided to do the hike in one day. The advantage: we didn't have to bring any spare clothes, food, tent, or sleeping bag.

So we set off on the 32.1 km long trail. We also had to walk from the city center to the trail and back in the end. At the end of the day, we had covered 42 km and our legs were burning.

Below you will find the altitude meters we climbed and the distance we covered.

The sad part was that we have already done much more beautiful hikes here in New Zealand and the trail was not worth it. It was just a great experience to cover so many kilometers. After this hike, hikes over 15 kilometers seem relatively short to us.

And here are a few impressions of the beautiful beaches on Stewart Island:

After the trip to Stewart Island, I have to say that it was unfortunately not worth the cost. It was a beautiful island with very beautiful beaches, but for us, it was a very expensive trip because of the ferry and accommodation costs.
