There's a lot to admire about Bergen this time. The flood of pictures will subside later, you know how it is. ;)
After a tiring day, I overslept breakfast. I joined Pia for lunch and we went to the city for the mandatory test after arriving. The test was quite nice, I really don't know how the lady could do it so brutally before exiting. :D Other than that, I went back to bed, there was nothing else to do. The three-master in front of Bryggen is the Statsraad Lehmkuhl built in 1914, which went to England as reparation payment after World War I and was bought back by the Norwegian Shipowners' Association in 1923. What caught my attention in the city: the request box for the release signal at traffic signals is the same as in Ireland and when it's green, it clatters just as much. :D For dinner, we had a rice dish with mushrooms.
Wasn't any more exciting than the first day, at least when it comes to food... In the afternoon, we went out and explored the Nordnes peninsula where our hotel Hordaheimen is also located. The weather is currently very nice, but since we usually have university meetings around noon, we only have daylight afterwards. After walking all the way to the end of the peninsula, we walked through the street Haugevein and past the Frederiksberg fortress through small alleys with super beautiful wooden houses. But it was already too dark for photos. I spent the rest of the day reading the travel guide. For dinner, we had a rice dish with vegetables and chickpeas.
We're slowly getting into a rhythm. Get breakfast after the alarm goes off and go back to sleep. It's still dark anyway. Then wake up around noon, get lunch. Then squeeze behind the laptop for a meeting and then go out... This time we were heading towards Bryggen. That's the district with the old warehouses from the Hanseatic times that are depicted in all travel guides. Afterwards, we took a walk around the Bergenhus fortress with the Håkon's Hall. Then we walked past the Maria Church and through cute winding alleys in the Fjellsiden district again until we reached the Skansen brannstasjon. As the name suggests, it's a fire station. Next to it is a fire pond, but it's frozen over in winter temperatures. This invites everyone around to ice skate. Pia and I would have liked to join in, but we have to avoid crowded places. So we headed back to the hotel. In the evening, we had a rice dish with lentils and pineapple for dinner.
It might surprise you, but not much happened on day number 4 either. You can start thinking about dinner. During the day, I received my negative test result from Monday, or was it on day 3? The days are already blending together... After a meeting about sleep and yoga, Pia and I of course went out again. Pia had already been out before lunch. Together, we strolled south into the Sydnes district. There are, of course, many colorful small wooden houses there surrounded by mighty blocks of stone. When you walk there, you feel like you're in a dwarf land. We passed the Johannes Church and just around the corner we saw a large pink building. Our curiosity was piqued and behold, it's the university. In pink. We continued past the botanical garden. Eventually, we ended up down by the water in Møhlenpris. Took some nice pictures and then headed back. On the way, we also came across the Law Faculty. It definitely has a prettier color and looks bombastic, allowing for a nice view to the south. But the highlight of the day was definitely the cat we met. I can't say if it was a Norwegian Forest cat, but it definitely had fluffy fur. Back at the hotel, we had dinner, of course: a rice dish with vegetables and kidney beans. Unfortunately, my potato request was not fulfilled. After the shock, I almost missed my lecture in the evening.
