Day 5 - Route 66 and Arrival at the Grand Canyon

And again the alarm clock rang mercilessly at 5:30. Today we have a tour of 300 miles on Route 66 through Oatman, Kingman, Seligman. Today's destination is the entrance to the Grand Canyon National Park.

After a small snack at the hotel, we set off. Sabrina wanted to take a photo of Lake Havasu - which wasn't so easy because it was difficult to get down to the water. The only way was through the State Park - at the entrance they wanted to charge us $15 for the whole day. But the nice man in the booth agreed to let us in for free - we just wanted to take a photo for 5 minutes.

Then we started on a stretch of highway and onto the old Route 66😊.

A fantastic and unique route where you really feel the great freedom that characterizes this country.

After a few photo stops, we reached the first milestone - Oatman. A small village like from the Wild West.

There was a saloon that was completely covered in dollars. Also some souvenir shops and...wild donkeys. The little beasts were friendly and even stuck their heads in the car😊

Next milestone was Kingman. A slightly larger town with the old powerhouse and old steam locomotives that you could also visit from the inside. 

Then we continued to Seligman. The drive there seemed to never end. It just went straight ahead - further and further on Route 66.

When we arrived in Seligman, we had to eat something first. So we went to a diner run by a German emigrant and her husband - 'Westside Lilo's Café'.

The food was good and relatively cheap compared to what we had already paid elsewhere. After a successful strengthening, we went to an old barbershop. The boss here still does the tailoring himself - at 98 years old. We bought some souvenirs and then made our way to the Grand Canyon - still about 2.5 hours away.
