Cartagena is located on the Caribbean coast and boasts a well-preserved colonial city. Within the former city walls, there are beautifully colored buildings with good restaurants, cafes, and bars.

Outside of the city center, it is like many other places in Colombia, characterized by poverty. Without proper garbage disposal, unpaved streets, and simple tin huts. The hair salon is simply a mirror hung on a tree and a garden chair placed in front of it. Here you can see that only a few people get a piece of the cake. As everywhere in South America, corruption is also one of the biggest problems here. The entire state apparatus serves its own interests first. Like the clown further north with America first 🤡 Therefore, it is not surprising that crime is increasing while the economy is stagnating. This is, of course, my personal opinion and could almost be said about all of South America.

So don't misunderstand me, Colombia is beautiful and has dreamlike landscapes. The people are friendly and very helpful. But there is also another side to it, where tourists traveling with cruise ships are seen...

Colombia will by the way be a travel destination again and one of our future trips 😀
