Rahel has been keeping a big secret about my 29th birthday all the time. Of course, this was not very easy when we are together 24/7.
When the time came, I was allowed to unwrap gifts in the morning... even at 29 years old, it was still great. :) I received homemade vouchers that I can redeem during our trip. I was able to redeem the first ones right away, a voucher for a new travel towel and a pack of Lindt balls (yes, they are also available in Australia!). Then we went to breakfast, which was another voucher. ;-)
Rahel found one of the few locations in Melbourne where you can have a relaxed breakfast in a beautiful garden. Grub Food Van was just fantastic.
In the afternoon, we strolled through Fitzroy, the hipster district of Melbourne. It has really nice shops and restaurants/bars, but not affordable for us backpackers.
Right across from our hostel was Holey Moley Golf Club. We always saw the doormen in suits and many well-dressed people coming and going at all times. We only thought that this must be an exclusive club. One day before my birthday, we finally checked it out and found out that it is a kind of party mini-golf. It was immediately clear that we would be there tomorrow.
And it was incredibly fun. We played on 18 holes, all of which were set up with different themes. There was Pac Man, The Simpsons, Game of Thrones, and even a campervan that you had to play through. Exactly my taste!
Unfortunately, we didn't quite make it to the win. But Rahel was definitely lucky. ;-) But that didn't dampen my mood (or only briefly).
Finally, we went to 400Grades. There, they served authentic Neapolitan wood-fired pizza. Very delicious.
Rahel managed to organize an unforgettable day behind my back without me even suspecting anything... RESPECT.
