Day 4: Combe Martin - Ilfracombe

প্ৰকাশিত: 17.09.2018

After a fun evening at the pub last night and a very tasty breakfast, we were well prepared for today's hike, especially since today's stage was only a short distance, just under 10km. We started with some drizzling rain and immediately had to conquer the first of two larger climbs. At the beginning of Watermouth Bay, we had a great view of the mountains behind us. Passing Watermouth Castle, we were rewarded with a view of the very sheltered Watermouth Bay. Ilfracombe soon came into sight, but there was still Hele Bay and another hill ahead of us, Hillsborough. Once we had climbed that one too, we arrived in Ilfracombe in beautiful sunshine.

Ilfracombe is a larger holiday town with a very cute harbor, as well as two mountains that surround the town, one of them with a small chapel, St Nicholas Chapel on Lantern Hill, which was also used as a lighthouse in the past. After a cappuccino in the harbor, we took a leisurely stroll through the town.

Unfortunately, tomorrow is supposed to be rainy again with strong winds. What a shame. :-/
