Day 66 - Atlantic Road

All the rockets that accompanied us during our dreams in this night are slowly disappearing into the vastness of space. It is getting brighter and brighter. That's why we gently wake up from sleep mode.

Our hosts Simon and Sally have already left. Only the cat constantly paces up and down in the apartment. Sometimes a bit annoying. Above all, she keeps trying to come into our room.

We prepare our breakfast and plan the coming days. Because today we continue south along the East Coast of Florida. After breakfast, we send a booking request via AirBnB and hope it works. Then we get into our vehicle and drive off.

In the afternoon, we see what's happening with the request and realize that it doesn't work. Damn! Now we have to quickly find something for the evening. Not quite easy at this time. We decide on a room in Port St. Lucie with Zak. It seems a bit kosher to us - at least the kitchen rule, but it's the best alternative considering the time and location.

We continue on to Jaycee Beach in the town of Vero Beach. It has a great picnic and playground area with barbecue stations, toilets, and even a beach volleyball court. We unpack the beach volleyball (including pumps, it loses air very quickly) and play various forms of the game on a small court. We limit the court to 4x4m to make scoring more difficult. We spend more than 1 hour playing in the sand.

To free ourselves from the sand and cool down a bit, we go over to the beach. It is wavey again. But that doesn't bother us. It's pleasantly refreshing - not warm, but not cold either.

At this point, it's time for an ocean intermezzo. What that is and means will become clear soon. On our trip around the world, we have already passed several oceans. With today's swim, we have achieved our goal, namely to swim in the largest seas in the world:

Singapore: 'Strait of Singapore' (connecting South China Sea and Indian Ocean, we count that as fulfilled ;-) (water temp: warm)

New Zealand: 'Tasman Sea' and 'Pacific Ocean' (cold)

Hawaii: 'Pacific Ocean' (warm)

Florida: 'Gulf of Mexico' and 'Atlantic Ocean' (pleasantly tempered)

After our swim in the ocean, we head to Port St. Lucie to our new host. When we arrive, it's quite special. He is rather reserved and explains the house rules to us stoically. We're not quite sure if that was a mistake. But well, that's our home for the last two days. In the kitchen, he comes by again to watch/check us while we cook. That's great.

We eat and wash up. That seems to impress him a bit, as apparently other guests haven't done that. He slowly warms up and after dinner we chat for about three quarters of an hour about (well, okay) his rules, but also gasoline prices, the legal situation regarding marijuana in the USA, his origin (Chile), and much more.

After saying goodbye, there is only one thing left: sleep.
