On Monday morning (February 10, 2020), after breakfast, the family leaves the campsite and I use the free time to do some minor repairs on my equipment. Meanwhile, I am visited by a local who wants to sell me some drugs, but I can't quite figure out what the man is talking about. Something to smoke, which he inhales on the spot through a small glass pipe. After completing the repair session, I read a bit and when the Mercedes bus returns, we have a cup of coffee and some cookies. Since the rest area is not really inviting to stay, we decide to move on. When we arrive at the port area of Bandar-e Pol, we have to queue up. A real traffic jam slowly but steadily pushes towards the harbor dock. Despite the crowds, the paperwork and the way to one of the car ferries are quickly taken care of and we can cross over to the island of Qeshm in a timely manner. Here, we don't waste any more time and find a campsite near the town of Laft and spend the evening together by the fire. Meanwhile, Örs joins our group, a Hungarian traveler with a Land Rover. So it's not until late at night that we go under the tarps.
After breakfast and coffee at the Mercedes bus, a trip to Laft is on the agenda for Tuesday. Along the coast, there are several wooden ships apparently under construction. Otherwise, the place is quite inconspicuous and characterized by small houses, many wind towers, and several mosques. We take a break in the center, buy a little something, and refill our drinking water reserves. On the way back to the tent, we climb a hill range on the outskirts of the city, on which there are a few remains of fortresses that allow a magnificent view over the city. Back at the campsite, I wake up Gitta and Pablo, who have now also reached the islands and have made themselves comfortable in the afternoon sun. With Gitta, I build a kind of tipi as a windbreak and cook a lentil soup over the evening, while Örs and Ali keep us company and try to light a fire. The evening passes quickly under the windbreak.
Wednesday, February 12, 2020, is laundry day. A mosque offers the appropriate laundry room, and a few Quran students promptly offer tea and some pastries for refreshment. The ladies from Hamburg continue their journey, and the rest of us relax at the campsite for the rest of the day. Coffee, sweets, Iranian rice curry, and other delicacies provide regular nourishment for all present, while the big guy has to settle for a chicken. Rango also occasionally gets visits from a pack of stray dogs, which he barks at every opportunity, but he is still responsive even from a distance. Surprising for all involved. The planned opium session for the evening has to be canceled due to too windy weather. Örs received a package of Teriak from a few Iranians he happened to meet on his way south and would like to share it. Generous, that man.
