From Chiang Mai, it took another four hours on winding roads to the north, to the small peaceful town of Pai, which has been particularly popular with backpackers for a few years. A great place to rest and take it easy. I spent many hours in the hammock. When I wasn't lying in the hammock, I enjoyed good food or explored the surroundings with a few other people from the hostel. In Pai, there are hot springs, a few waterfalls, temples, caves, the usual stuff. ;-)
After a few days, I made my way to Laos. From Pai, it took another 4 hours by minibus back to Chiang Mai. As a precaution, I took a tablet for motion sickness, as the road is really extremely winding. Unfortunately, my seatmate did not and so he filled several small plastic bags with his vomit. They were not completely leak-proof, so a lot of it ended up in the car...
After three hours in Chiang Mai, I continued for another 4 hours to Chiang Rai. Here, I just wanted to quickly visit the White Temple before heading to the border. When I arrived at the temple, I realized that I had left my phone in the taxi!
Thankfully, for some reason, I remembered the number of the taxi and the driver. Some other taxi drivers located him for me and he returned my phone to me. Boy, was I relieved!
The White Temple was incredibly beautiful! But I had hardly any time to look at it because I wanted to catch the bus to the border at five o'clock. I just managed to jump into the bus and it drove off. Phew!
