Today, on the second day in Irkutsk, we had another guided tour with Damian. First, we went to the monument of Yuri Gagarin, famously known as the first man in space. Unfortunately, he passed away at the age of only 34.
After that, we walked to the local history museum, where Damian told us a lot about the indigenous peoples of the Irkutsk region and Russia in general.
Then, we drove to the monument of Alexander III, who ordered the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway.
Next, we visited the old city center, which is home to 3 churches, the eternal flame, and the convent.
That concluded the guided tour, and we had the opportunity to take a break at the hotel. We still had some smoked fish from the previous day, so we decided to have it for lunch.
Then, we set out to explore the city on our own. There are several streets with typical old wooden houses in Irkutsk.
We also revisited the market from the previous day. There, you can find fresh and smoked fish, meat, bacon, vegetables, sweets, and much more.
In the evening, we visited the symbol of the city and the Irkutsk region - the Siberian tiger (Babr) with a sable in its mouth.
