Our days on Gili Air

প্ৰকাশিত: 07.05.2017

The first morning on Gili Air is eventful. You have to get used to being woken up here not by the sun, but around 5 o'clock by the calls of the muezzin, as the inhabitants of Indonesia, except for the Balinese, are Muslims. Since we naturally informed ourselves about our travel destinations before the trip, this was not a surprise. So: Woke up briefly, wondered, fell asleep again.

But if you are woken up a few minutes later by a strange tingling on your hand and have to realize that the cause of the tingling is a cockroach, you don't necessarily need that early in the morning. Maybe we should have closed the mosquito net better...

After a brief moment of excitement and realizing that we can't sleep anymore, we sit on the terrace and enjoy breakfast (banana pancakes, tomato omelette, fruit, coffee and juice). Fortunately, it is included in the price of the accommodation and helps us quickly overcome the shock.

Since the first day looks just like the others on Gili Air, here is the summary: After breakfast, either snorkel on the beach, explore the island on foot, or lie in the hammock in front of the bungalow (Melbao Homestay) and read. Lunch at one of the countless small restaurants (e.g. Gado Gado or Egg Martabak at Warung Bambu). In the afternoon, the sky usually becomes cloudy, so we spend it on the covered terrace of the bungalow, with more or less rain. Dinner is then available in one of the other restaurants (e.g. delicious marinated skewers with peanut sauce at the Sate Bar).

Gili Air has many beautiful spots, especially away from the harbor. Tomorrow we will continue to Lombok. The island is said to be much more original and far less touristy than its big sister Bali. We are very excited.
