A sunny day with a gentle breeze. When we wake up, the crew has already set the front sails. We are sailing! Well, kind of... Almost backwards, so the engine stays on.
Our crew takes us to three beautiful reefs for snorkeling. At the first spot, we have to admit that we were a bit disappointed because the visibility was poor. The coral and fish world not as colorful as we know it. Too far away from the surface.
Our boatwoman explains to us that the cyclone in March 2017 heavily hit this paradise. Houses and boats were damaged at the harbor, trees on the islands, and corals in the reef were greatly affected. It was only two weeks ago that the dives were worthwhile again because the water was too cloudy. She sees the effects of global warming every day. Will our next generation still see the Great Barrier Reef?
The second snorkeling session was unforgettable. So many different colorful fish. Flat, round, striped, spotted, small, and big. We are impressed by the underwater life.
During the third snorkeling session, we got very close to the reef at low tide. We see colorful corals in many shapes and swim with giant turtles. An incredibly beautiful experience!
While enjoying delicious food, we enjoy the socializing on board. We can hardly believe that two days on the ship have already passed. This sailing trip will be a highlight of our journey.
