Tag 39 - Alps2Ocean Trail (Part III)

Since the night was stormy and cold, I left this creepy place without breakfast. Fortunately, the weather has been excellent, just like the last few days: pure sunshine! The bike was running really well this morning, so I made good progress. I arrived in Kurow around noon, a small town with a supermarket. A British cyclist told me that this was the last supermarket before the end of the trail. So I bought supplies for the next 1.5 days and took a long break in front of a museum. At this museum, I started talking to John. He knew Cologne and even Refrath! He was a missionary for the Mormons in Cologne Delbrück during his studies in 1977/78. He remembered Bensberg Castle, of course, and the Cologne Cathedral, although he preferred Groß St. Martin. It was a funny coincidence that I met him, I actually didn't plan to stay there for long. But it was already shortly after 3pm when I set off on the last 35 kilometers. The camping site provided by the community in Duntroon was a large meadow with a small toilet house, but very cheap. In the evening, I talked to two German guys from southern Baden-Württemberg. Tomorrow will be my last day on the bike. I'm heading to Oamaru on the Pacific coast, where I want to visit a 'real' campsite after many days on basic camping sites, and I will probably stay there for two nights. Then I'll take the bus to Christchurch and hopefully continue by car.
