As if there were two climate zones, in NY it feels like 20 degrees and quite humid, and here it's summer with 32 degrees. Accordingly, we are flat at the platform and have to orient ourselves while sweating.

Away from the Amtrak to Union Station and then we are amazed. A huge hall as a train station and there is nothing really in it. Just empty and you have to walk through. That's what the Americans can do. But nevertheless a beautiful hall, which has exactly one purpose...to impress guests.

Outside, we grab a bus that actually runs for free and go to our new hotel. Super nice and spacious.

The first meal in DC and we choose a Mexican restaurant, put together a mixed menu with burritos, enchiladas and nachos and get started. The highlight? Softdrinks of course with free refill. Luke and Mia do the big drink test and try everything, like Cherry-Sprite and Coke Zero with vanilla.

Now we stroll very comfortably and full through Washington and it becomes immediately clear. This is something completely different. Much quieter and cleaner. Lots of green areas and small hills. Significantly less honking and a lot of people on bikes. We really like it.

First stop, of course, the toilet of a big hotel, because Lumi's soft drinks have to come out again ;)

Right after that, the White House. There is not that much police there, and also few visitors, so we can take quite a lot of photos and then walk to the Washington Memorial. 169 meters high and attention 'a likeness of George Washington, because he too stands in no one's shadow' and that's how it is, a well-kept lawn, more like a park around it and people have a picnic and play tag. We sit in between and enjoy ourselves.
