Great reunion in Bangkok

Bangkok - Thailand

With a delay we arrived in Bangkok, Thailand on 25.04.2019. In our Air BnB apartment we met Ronny, Marcus and Kevin, who were still tired from the last party night. In the evening, we still went to the city center.

We met with Mimi (a friend of Marcus) and Tom. Together we sat in a small, lonely bar by the river and watched the numerous dinner boats. Then we went to Bangkok's famous party street. We treated ourselves to cocktails in buckets, tried laughing gas and the strong energy drink MI50. Some of the guys went to the Ping Pong Show, the rest went to a quieter street with bars.

On Friday we had to check out early in the morning, but we could leave our luggage in the reception hall of the house with a little stomach ache. We had a small sightseeing tour planned. We took TukTuks and made a detour to a pier - we had various communication problems - and first took a 45-minute boat trip.

Actually, for the sake of cost, you should use a kind of liner trip, but then we were told that they no longer exist, but we saw many of them driving around directly after the first minutes on the boat. The boat trip was nice and since none of us wanted to walk around much, it was just right. The boat trip ended at Wat Arung Temple.

We looked around there a bit, but quickly went to lunch in a "restaurant" in a side street.

Vientiane - Laos

Then time was already getting a bit tight, because we had booked an overnight bus to Vientiane, Laos for the evening. Part of our group went to the bus station by TukTuk. The others decided at short notice to take the Skytrain, which took a lot longer than expected compared to struggling through traffic with the TukTuks. We were already worried at the bus station whether the others would make it on time. But luckily everything worked out. The journey to Vientiane was quite comfortable, there were seats with massage function and food for everyone included.

The next morning we arrived at Thai Lao, which was the border, and another bus took us across the Friendship Bridge. Then we arrived in Laos. We continued to Vientiane by minibus. We had already booked accommodation for ourselves via Air BnB. Finding it was a bit difficult. So we had breakfast nearby first. After reading the directions 100 times and searching almost the entire area, we finally found it. We had a nice, small cottage all to ourselves. So we waited for Meise. The last of the group who wanted to supervise the project with us. For that we went to a nearby café again, where we had delicious iced coffee. J Meise arrived much later than expected. To this day, we still don't quite understand why he decided to walk from the airport to the accommodation and not take a taxi. But that's just Meise.

In the afternoon we wanted to explore the area a bit. Near the accommodation, we visited a rather unspectacular memorial.

Then it was time for lunch, it was incredibly hot.

We then walked along the Royal Palace, took a TukTuk to the city center to a rooftop bar and watched the sunset. For dinner we went to the night market and then back to the rooftop bar for pre-partying.

After that, the night was not over yet. We walked to the CCC Bar and danced a bit. The DJ booth consisted only of a laptop, so Kenny ended up playing music. The local DJ didn't like that very much and there was an argument immediately. After many pointless discussions, the situation could be resolved. Meanwhile, Kevin started chatting with a pretty Asian girl. But in the end, he went home with us without her.

After one night, it was time to check out again. But this time, fortunately, we could leave our luggage at the Air BnB for the day. So on Sunday, 28.04. 2019, we took TukTuks to a temple and visited a huge reclining Buddha.

We inserted short organizational phases into our sightseeing tour. We bought SIM cards for our phones and a new charging cable for Krissi. Because her phone started beeping loudly and warning that shutting down was recommended to avoid damage every time she tried to charge it. But the phone was only about 1 month old...

For refreshment, we went to a small snack bar by the roadside - similar to a Warung in Bali. Then we saw the King's statue. Eventually, everyone was driven home by the fear of rain. Everyone except Kevin. He enjoyed playing football with some local boys. But in the pouring rain, he also went back to the Air BnB to get our luggage. Fortunately, it's always nice and warm and therefore not a big deal to get wet.

With 2 TukTuks, we then went to the Northern Bus Station of Vientiane and started our journey to Luang Prabang. After the first trips with a night bus were still really exciting, we could now really use them to sleep. The only annoying thing was that the bus drivers turned on the bright light of the bus at every stop or we were panicking about oversleeping our stop. We had everything from luxury buses with massage function to much too short and worn-out beds. Night bus rides were especially exciting for our tall guys. For a height over 1.70m, the beds are simply not designed.
