Koh Rong Samloem

So after arriving in Sihanoukville and taking the ferry to Koh Rong Samloem, we were taken to our hostel by taxi boat. After checking in at the Yellow Moon, we went swimming and enjoyed the sunshine. The island of Koh Rong Samloèm is located next to Koh Rong island, but it is still very untouched. Three years ago, the first people came here and settled on the island. Our hostel opened about 3 months ago with 10 beds. Currently, they have over 30 beds and are fully booked every night.

I don't have much to report about the week, as we didn't have anything planned for the island except to relax and enjoy the sun. During the day, we spent our time reading in hammocks, swimming in the water, or sleeping on the beach chairs. Every evening, there was live music, a fire show, and we sat around the campfire with other backpackers and chatted. After the live music, where everyone was encouraged to participate, Jonny, the hostel owner, took over the music and played everything from Shakira to Queen.

One morning, we set off early and walked for 1 hour to Clearwater Beach. As the name suggests, the beach is about 1 km long with white sand and beautiful water. After soaking up the sun, we returned around 3 pm and took the Yellow Moon boat to the very small neighboring island of Koh Tok. We went snorkeling twice on the way and I even caught a fish, which we ate at the subsequent barbecue.

So we had 8 days full of sun, sea, and relaxation. The staff and other travelers were really nice, and I met many new people that I will definitely visit in the future. A great way to end our 4-month trip.

In the next few days, we will still be in Siem Reap and Bangkok, spending our last 4 days there, but I'll talk about that later :).
