This is the perfect wave, this is the perfect day...

After the past two days, which were all about the Hawaiian motto 'Hang Loose', today is going to be something exciting on the program.

First, we have a delicious breakfast as always - this time again outdoors - and now that we only wake up 3 more times here in paradise, every morning is enjoyed even more intensely!

Afterwards, we head to the swimming pool, where we surprise the lifeguards, who have taken us both into their hearts, with homemade cheesecake. It wasn't easy to find all the ingredients for it in the supermarket here (for example, Americans don't know curd cheese), but the result was almost even better than with original German ingredients. And the 'Lifeguard from Lahaina' is amazed as she sees the cake in front of the pool, and they visibly enjoy the German specialty. It's better than any American cheesecake, that's a big compliment for us!

Then we go to the surf shop, rent a board for the day, because I just couldn't get enough of the surf lesson two days ago. And finally, I want to know if I can do it alone. So, from the chlorine pool to the saltwater, into the waves!

As expected, this sport without a teacher is a completely different challenge. It takes a while for me to stand up alone on a wave. There were often times when I wished I had eyes in the back and in the front - in the back to look out for a suitable wave and in the front to keep an eye on the other surfers, because it's hard enough to go straight on two legs - I have no idea how to steer a board around other people...

But I prove endurance, spend almost 2 hours in the sea and have more moments of success than I could have imagined.

Now I need a break, the surfboard is stored at the rental place and at home we have coffee. After that, we relax a little by the pool, write the last postcards and gather strength for my second surf session in the afternoon.

At around 4:00 p.m., I start the second round, this time I have the waves all to myself (in the morning, there were many surf schools out). I enjoy every moment of it. The waves are higher and therefore more difficult to ride, but I am even more successful than in the morning. In addition, I have two personal cheerleaders - of course, my mom, who also supported me energetically in the morning, and a sea turtle that comes up out of the water right next to me (I could probably have touched it) every now and then. As if she is cheering me on and judging my 'surfing skills' like a jury, she hovers there next to me in the waves - amazing!

In the evening sun, everything is even more fun than in the morning and after an hour and a successful dismount, I end my Maui surf adventure. After that, I am already proud of myself for 'getting on my own feet'.

We watch the sunset from the same beach and watch the professional surfers - maybe someday I will be one too!

Back home, we end the evening with a delicious Hawaiian fish dish and numerous bruises (especially on the knees and hips), but who wants to have fun has to suffer...
