Whitby Abbey and York

Whitby Abbey is, like previous abbeys, a considerable ruin. Unfortunately, it can only be visited from the outside.

York, not far from the abbey, is a very charming city with several street musicians and many cafes and second-hand shops. York plays a major role in the history of the Vikings, who established a trading centre here in 960 AD. At that time, York was filled with a variety of people. From the wealthy who traded, to craftsmen who offered their goods, and ordinary people looking for work. The museum about this is similarly built like a roller coaster ride and highly recommended.
