Walking to Dinan

As requested, it was dry and slightly sunny early this morning, although it rained all night. So we could set off to Dinan, but without Calvin - he needed a day off from us and stayed in the motorhome reading.

The path followed along the Rance, nice and flat, making it a paradise for hikers and cyclists. After about half an hour, we arrived at the port of Dinan. Small sailboats and motorboats were docked there, really cute. Bars and restaurants lined the path on both sides towards the city. Towards the castle, we had to go up to the hill of Dinan, and that made us sweat a bit. After a good hour of walking, we finally made it. In the parking lot, there were only French license plates - except one from Dresden!

The castle was built in the 14th century and is part of the fortification that surrounds the city for 2.5km. Practically all you see around the city is city walls. In the 16th century, the castle was redesigned and towers were connected. But I didn't get much more information, there was no information brochure at the entrance.

Anyway, you could explore the rooms in the towers, such as the kitchen, the bedroom, or the chapel. From the terraces of the towers, you have a good view over the city and can see the surrounding churches with their tall towers. It was interesting to see that the houses in Dinan are mostly built with the same stones as here in Taden (or the other way around?). Cute architecture, nice to look at.

After exploring the castle, we went back down towards the port. Dark clouds were approaching and we still had a few kilometers to go back. However, our hunger tempted us to a restaurant at the port, just right, because it immediately started pouring rain. I ordered the "petite salade océan," a small salad with something from the ocean, and André ordered an omelette. The waiter brought a lot of tools or cutlery for the salad, and I got a little worried. But in the end, they were just regular shrimps, mussels, and tiny little shrimps (which I still don't know how to eat properly). It was really delicious 😊

The rain had stopped again, and we could walk back towards Calvin and Herbert. We were on the road for a good 4.5 hours and hiked almost 12 km. And you know what? As soon as we arrived at the place, it started raining continuously...
