Where to start a city tour during Holy Week? In Sucre, at the very well-kept cemetery. The wealthy could and can afford a burial in the ground: Presidents, generals, and mining or large landowners. Others come in coffins in niches in endless rows with usually five levels for ten years, which can be extended for another ten years.
At the market, the most diverse foods are offered in different areas. All are lovingly decorated. The sales seemed rather moderate early in the morning.
Afterwards, we go to the "Casa de Libertad", where the Declaration of Independence was signed and is exhibited as a facsimile in the historic site.
On Recoleta, we visit five gardens and a supposedly 500-year-old cedar tree in the Franciscan Convent. Then there is the Textile Museum, which offers a worthwhile insight into cultural history. One highlight is the exhibition of the remains of a group of seven individuals from a caravan from the pre-Inca period (presumably from the fifth century AD) with valuable and well-preserved items.
